We have designed the PortaMEe™ child carrier with comfort being the first priority. Adults are all different sizes, as are babies. Therefore there are two ways of wearing our product.
- For larger babies, 18lbs and up and / or adults over 5'4“, we recommend option A.
- For larger babies, 12lbs - 18lbs and / or adults under 5'4“, we recommend option B.
Try both ways and see which is most comfortable for you.
Step 1: Buckle the Waist
- Buckle the lumbar support waist pack at your natural waistline. (see Figure A)
- The lumbar support back pocket should be in the center for your lower back. (see Figure B)
- It is of paramount importance that the fit be snug and secure. This will relieve pressure off your neck and shoulder.
- This child carrier can be worn on the left or right hip. Simply slide carrier seat across the center buckle.
OPTION A (Babies 18lbs +, Adults 5’4”
- Note that the very BOTTOM LEATHER
- TRIM FACES DOWN. (see photo 3A above)
OPTION B (Babies 12-18lbs, Adults less than 5’4”)
- Turn the carrier seat portion so that the BOTTOM LEATHER TRIM FACES UP. (see photo 3B above)
- The waist band’s outer nylon material is facing your hip. (This shortens the carrier by creating a “hammock-like sling”.
Step 2: Prefit the Shoulder Strap
- Loosen shoulder strap and slip it over your opposite shoulder. (see Figure C)
- Center the shoulder pad by using the adjusters. Note there are two: one in front and one in back. It is crucial that you use both to find your comfort zone.
- Leave a little room in for your child.
Step 3: Lift Child into the Carrier
- With their legs straddling your hip, slide your child inside. (see Figure D)
- Make sure child is centered in the carrier seat.
- Child must ALWAYS face the adult – NEVER outward..
Step 4: Adjust
- Adjust the shoulder strap for secure fit. Don’t forget to make minor adjustments in back as well as in front. We find loosening the front and tightening the back is helpful in finding the perfect comfort zone. (see Figure E)
- Slip excess strapping into the winged side pockets.
- For added closeness and security, pull the drawstring cord.
To Take Your Child out of the Carrier
- Make sure you are supporting the child under its bottom before loosening or opening any buckles.
